Technique is in the brushing actually. you can check if you are putting the knot in the correct place. you can use pet comb brush also to make to more puffy.
Brushing properly will hide the space made by the knot and the yarn will be distributed equally. i always try to put a thin knot and use small scissors to cut it equally and then brush.
