Even if you've done your pastel on sanded paper or velour, this can still happen. In addition, condensation can form under the glass/plastic and damage the painting. That's why watercolor paintings need to be matted (unless you varnish them). For pastel though, ideally not even the matte should be allowed to touch the surface. | |
